Freedom papers of Samuel Chavois [Chavis], 1786
This document is very faded and hard to read, I did the best I can to transcribe it as written.
A section of the document was torn. The document was about the size of a 3"x5" index card folded
9 sections (twice length wise and twice width wise). The section that was torn is on the far left
middle section along the 3 creases bording it. I'm really not sure about some of the words, such as
"channing" and "ordered". I kept all the misspellings as they were, including "therfor" (therefore)
and "Desier" (desire). I have a feeling from an educated guess based on other freedom papers I've seen
that on the 4rd line where it's torn, it should say "persons" and the 5th line where it is torn is most
likely "Chavois" (Chavis).
this may certify that Samuel Chavois
is a freeman of Granville County
